The Mannerly Miss

Since we live in the North, we have enjoyed the company of many well-mannered children who are quite respectful of adults without saying "yes ma'am" and "yes sir." However, I was raised to say ma'am and sir and I would like to teach our children to employ that courtesy as a mark of respect. I know my parents are probably falling all over themselves in surprise about this revelation, since as a child I did not appreciate the custom as dearly as I might have.

At any rate, I have been working with Hannah to say "Yes ma'am" rather than simply, "yes." I'm prepared for this to take a long time, since currently she doesn't even say "yes" really - it's either "yesh" or "yep."

Today though, after prompting her to "Say yes ma'am" Hannah rewarded me with:

"Yesh-yeppa-mama!"

So I'm interpreting that as progress!
