Sorting Things Out

Hannah really likes to sort stuff.

She has a set of colored pencils, which she calls her "pretty coh-yers" (colors). Each one is presented to me in turn, with her guess as to what the color is. Accuracy is improving, although when in doubt, Hannah always guesses "Gween!" and then "Peash!" Anyway, after we've discussed the name of the color in question, Hannah places it carefully into a pile. Get this, she sorts them by color families. Reds, pinks, and peaches in one pile, blues, greens and purples in another, yellows, browns and oranges in another, etc.

This afternoon I was sorting through my coupon file thingy and pulling out piles of expired coupons, then sorting the rest by type etc. Hannah asked for the expired coupons, calling them "Poo-pons" and proceeded to set up an elaborate file system of her own. I didn't figure out what she was using as her sorting criteria, but she was really into her little piles and it kept her busy for a while.
