My parents gave Hannah a terrific easel for her birthday, and the kids have loved painting, drawing, and using chalk with it. For anyone who lets their kids paint, how do you give them the paints? Do you use little dishes or something? I have been putting a little bit at a time into cleaned out baby food jars, but the jars are a little small to hold the brushes.

Hannah's favorite part is mixing colors. She is pretty fascinated by how blue and red mix into purple, and if you put in more red, it makes magenta. She likes to name colors by very specific names like "aqua" instead of "light blue" or "magenta" instead of "pinky-purple" and so on.

Jack likes to make very careful brush strokes and shapes. He is much better at staying inside the lines than Hannah at this point.

I just put it on a plate. the paints we use are waterproof, so they come off pretty easliy. Both of my girls love to paint and would do it everyday if I let them!
Granted its been awhile, but I think I remember my Mom putting them in small yogurt containers. (not the ones with foil peel off lids, but the ones with normal plastic lids, if that makes sense)
I am too much of a wimp for thick paints...we use watercolors, which are very easy to put on the easel "shelf." Plus they are great for mixing colors to create reddy-orange, bluey-black,and greeny-purpley-brown.
They sell paint jars for kids. They have a great funnel like top, so that the paints don't go everywhere. You could probably make ones by saving small plastic tubs with lids and cutting a hole in the top, that way the brushed won't fall out. Hope this helps!
