Progress and Lack Thereof

Potty training is going all right these days. I would say about 50% of days we have no accidents, and most of the other days it's just one small one when we don't make it to the potty quite quickly enough. However, sometimes we have bad days. For example, on Sunday when we had lots of guests over after church, Hannah had an accident while sitting on my mom's lap, and Mom's dress got wet. Ick. Then yesterday Hannah was looking at books on her big girl bed and was fascinated to discover what happens when you get sheets wet. Also ick. Overall, I think it's going fairly well, and I am SO happy to be washing fewer diapers now!

Sleep training, on the other hand, is not going so well. As you may recall, Jack started sleeping through the night at 3 months, but then after a few weeks of that he stopped. About a week and a half ago we decided to let him cry more at night and not feed him during the night. Even the pediatrician said that at his size and height, he doesn't need to eat at night and should be sleeping at least 12 hours at a stretch. All the sleep books seem to think he should be capable of that too.

Well, I regret to report that Jack has not read my sleep books. He has had a few nights of good sleep, but mostly he cries off and on starting at about 3am (sometimes earlier), after having been given a late night feeding at 10 or 11pm. I'm a light sleeper as it is, so I don't sleep through the crying, and even though he falls asleep again, I often don't. So I am really tired and starting to seriously consider giving up on sleep training! Preposterous though it may sound, I think I got more sleep when I was getting up with Jack to feed him several times a night, because at least after feeding him I can go back to sleep!

Ah sleep. How I miss you!
