"Sven's Bridge" by Anita Lobel is a delightful story about a bridge-keeper, Sven, and the bridge that serves his village but gets in the way of the king's boat. The illustrations in this book are wonderful, and the story is interesting. Sven's good attitude and servant's heart come through without being preachy, as are the negative effects of having temper tantrums.
Yorkshire veterinarian Dr. Herriot comes across a touching story about an old cow's devotion to her master in "Blossom Comes Home." The illustrations in the volume are detailed and well done, and the story is engrossing. There is a lot of text on each page, but Hannah sat in rapt attention and hung on every word to see what would happen to Blossom. Hannah is quite fond of cows.
