Today I had a blinding headache and the kids were in desperate need of a diversion. I pulled some chairs up to the sink, put some warm soapy water in each side, and gave them some dishes to "wash" for me. They both had a blast and stayed occupied for a good thirty minutes. Hannah was especially thrilled to be helping, so I think maybe I'll have her help me wash dishes more often. If she likes it and has fun, I think it will be a good thing to help her feel like a big girl.

Great idea.
What was cooking in your crockpot?
LOL. I saw the crock pot too and was wondering about that and thinking to my self, "You know, you need to do more crock pot things because it's such a good idea."
Anyway, what I was going to say before I saw Alicia's comment was: Your kids look so cute doing dishes. Won't it be nice when they can do things that are helpful for REAL? Maybe in a few years? Sometimes I find myself dreaming about those days and wondering when they'll come.
That's funny you guys both noticed the crock pot. I had it set up with the oatmeal for this morning, but hadn't turned it on. If I don't set it out the day before I plan to serve oatmeal for breakfast, I usually forget that night.
I rarely think of using the crockpot for dinner these days because normally I just use it for roasts and things like that, and we haven't had one in a while.
And Amy, yes, I dream of those days too! At least at nearly 3 Hannah is getting to the point where she can get me things, set the table, put away her own stuff, and little things like that. Washing a sink full of dishes for real may take a few more years! :)
I normally let Morgan put away the forks and spoons when she wants to help, and she has been able to accurately sort them. I think it's great our kids are in the "I want to help you" mode! Let's hope it lasts.
